This workshop provides an introduction to basic accounting principles for employees who are not accountants but must deal with managing funds, budgeting, spreadsheet analyses, or other financial matters. This workshop is designed for professionals who work in accounting, auditing and other finance-related titles. The workshop provides an overview of the accounting equation and discusses the elements of the income statement. Changes in equity and balance sheets; an explanation of accrual accounting; accounting for deferrals; a synopsis of +/- accounts and the general journal; and a review of depreciation methods will be addressed. Governmental fund accounting and business type accrual accounting including applications of government-wide financial statements will be also be reviewed.

Actuarial Instruments for Risk Assessment of Sexual Offenders for OPWDD
This two-day workshop is designed for psychologists, social workers, treatment team leaders, nurses, and program development specialists who work with sex offenders in facilities and the community. The workshop includes a research overview, specific instructions for administering and scoring the Static-99 and Stable/Acute 2007, and several hands-on exercises. The workshop will utilize role-play, and small-group and individual exercises to allow participants become proficient in using the risk measures. The workshop will also provide participants with feedback and suggestions for obtaining information in adversarial contexts. This workshop is provided for the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities staff on request of the agency liaison.
Administrative Law Update for Lawyers
This workshop reviews basic administrative law concepts. Also discussed will be recent case law developments in Administrative Law. Upon successful completion of this workshop, six (6) Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits in Professional Practice will be awarded.

Topics include idea-generation techniques, use of control frameworks, and the impact of organizational cultures on auditing. Best practices in auditing will also be covered.
Advanced Spanish for the Health Care Professionals
This advanced level workshop is for healthcare professionals who would like to build on a basic knowledge of the use of Spanish in a health care setting. The workshop will include a review of the Spanish alphabet, pronunciation, salutations and polite expressions. Workshop participants will learn relevant nouns, regular and reflexive verbs, and health terminology. The workshop will include patient-provider role plays and discussions on cross-cultural communication and the use of interpreters. Previous attendance at the Basic Spanish for Health Care Professionals workshop is recommended.
Ambulatory Emergencies for SUNY Downstate
This workshop is designed for nurses working in an acute care setting. This workshop will discuss many of the clinical findings that constitute ambulatory emergencies, such as chest pain, acute respiratory distress, and abuse and maltreatment. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Compliance for Department of Transportation
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires that transportation facilities constructed or altered by state, regional, and local agencies be readily accessible and usable by people with disabilities. This one-day workshop is provided for New York State employees whose jobs involve adapting agency facilities or services to improve accessibility to persons with disabilities, as required by the ADA in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of pedestrian and other transportation facilities within public right-of-way. The workshop comprises extensive technical information regarding accessibility design and standards. This workshop also includes regulatory information, such as ADA requirements, self evaluations, and transition plans. Using many case examples, workshop participants gain information from New York cities' and agencies' experiences. Upon completion of this workshop, each participant will receive .6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs). This workshop, offered via videoconference, is designed for health care professionals working with people with developmental disabilities. Workshop participants will receive information on various types of arthritis, including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Topics will include diet, bone health, joint protection, interventions to decrease the effects of arthritis, and exercise to maintain and optimize movement. Osteoporosis prevention and treatment options will also be discussed.

This 2-day workshop is designed for OPWDD psychologists who provide assessment and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders. The workshop presents the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), which is recognized as the gold standard of instruments designed to evaluate individuals for the diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder. The four modules of the ADOS are introduced, administered, scored, and discussed. There will also be a brief discussion of ADOS clinical use and implications.

Best Practices in the Treatment of Developmentally Disabled Sex Offenders for OPWDD (Videoconference)
This workshop is delivered through videoconferencing and will provide an overview of what needs to be considered when developing treatment programming. Treatment program objectives, admission criteria, identifying service providers, and identification of treatment targets will be discussed. A treatment model to guide treatment will also be presented. Current best practice treatment strategies for this population will be outlined. Common treatment approaches that may have little treatment effectiveness will be also be discussed.
Bridge Inspection and Maintenance
This two-day workshop will broaden the participants' skill in structural inspection techniques of bridges. The workshop will provide information on bridge engineering and the evaluation and rating of substructure and superstructure components including foundations, piers, abutments, bearings, girders, beams, slabs, railings, barriers, fences, and joints. Drainage systems and scouring damage assessment will also be discussed. Participants will also learn about bridge engineering mechanics and the structural integrity and evaluation of substructure and superstructure components, as well as background knowledge regarding bridge functioning. Upon completion of this workshop, up to 1.2 Continuing Education Units (12 PDHs) will be awarded.
Caring for Psychiatric Inmates
This workshop will provide correctional nurses with information needed to offer holistic nursing care to inmates with psychiatric disorders. Participants will learn the components of a thorough mental health assessment. This workshop will also discuss dealing with patients with co-occurring substance abuse disorders and medical co-morbidities. Other topics include: psychotropic medications, suicide prevention, and dealing with crisis situations and psychiatric emergencies.
Cascading Style Sheets: Basics
This workshop focuses on the basic principles of creating Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to develop web page designs that provide a true separation of content from presentation. Participants learn to create different types of style sheets to control page elements such as fonts, lists, color backgrounds, and borders. In addition, using CSS for layout is explored.
CCRN Test Preparation Workshop for SUNY Upstate Medical Center
This two-day workshop is for experienced critical care nurses who are selected to participant in the SUNY Upstate Medical Center CCRN certification program. The workshop will help participants prepare for the CCRN exam by offering a comprehensive review of critical care nursing practice. This review will include critical care practices when caring for a patient with cardiovascular, pulmonary, endocrine, gastro-intestinal, neurologic, renal, or hematologic problems. Test taking strategies and a review of the synergy model will also be discussed. Participants who attend this workshop must agree to sit for the CCRN exam within three months of workshop completion.Upon successful completion of this workshop, 14 contact hours or 1.4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be awarded.

Topics include basic computer security tools and practices, and the security models of the major mobile vendors. Participants will understand the current threat matrix targeting computing systems, issues in managing security for desktop computers and mobile systems, and effective countermeasures for protecting agency workstations.
Conducting Meetings with Bank Management for Banking
This four-day workshop is designed for bank examiners who are beginning to make presentations to the management of financial institutions. Participants will have the opportunity to practice skills, receive coaching on these skills, and be expected to provide constructive criticism to peers. Specific learning goals include: identifying reasons why examiners conduct meetings with bank management, differentiating between types of meetings held with management, directors, and determining when and how to use each type, identifying and developing good communication techniques, conducting three different types of presentations (interview, final meeting, and board meeting), and conducting meetings with management involving adverse examination findings and difficult situations, demonstrating an ability to effectively handle conflict or confrontation.

Contract Auditing
This five-day workshop focuses on the types of contract audits and specific purposes of price proposal and historical cost audits. Topics include the procurement process, Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), allocation of costs, statistical sampling, correlation analysis, improvement curves, performing a price proposal audit, and performing the historical audit. This workshop assumes attendees have some college accounting courses and that the current job position is related to auditing of contracts. Upon completion of this workshop, participants will receive 40 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits.
Co-Occurring Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders
This workshop is designed for social workers, health professionals, counselors, nurses, teachers, and other professionals. Discussion will focus on the tools for assessing the needs of drug and alcohol-dependent clients. Strategies will be provided for overcoming obstacles for treatment of those with mental health and substance use issues.
Copyright and Fair Use
This workshop will first provide a general overview of U.S. copyright law: the nature of copyright, what kinds of works are protected, what are the rights of a copyright owner, and what conduct will be considered infringing. It will then describe and explore the U.S. concept of "fair use" of copyrighted materials, the kinds of uses that, while apparently infringing, will nevertheless be protected. We will examine the development of the fair use doctrine and the way in which it has been applied in a variety of contexts.

This two-day workshop is an introduction to the framework and methods of cost benefit analysis (CBA). Topics include the economic reasoning underlying CBA, discounting to calculate present value, program effects that should and should not be counted, and some of the techniques for valuing benefits and costs. The course provides information to participants that enable them to be competent users of CBA. Note that some knowledge of the economic concepts of supply and demand is a prerequisite.

Current Issues in Nutrition
Rapid changes in diets and lifestyles resulting from industrialization, urbanization, economic development and market globalization are having a significant impact on the nutritional status of populations. Because of these changes, diet-related diseases–including obesity, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and stroke, and various forms of cancer – are increasingly significant causes of disability and premature death. This workshop will discuss current issues in nutrition and the impact on various populations.
Data Analysis
This two-day workshop develops skills for visualizing and analyzing data. Topics include descriptive statistics, histograms, cross tabulations and pivot tables, correlation and regression, and confidence intervals. Use of graphs to explore patterns and relationships in the data is emphasized. Data sets are provided for practice in building statistical analysis skills. The workshop uses Microsoft Excel 2007 as a tool for learning about data analysis and is held in a digital classroom where each participant has a computer for doing the exercises. Students should bring a USB (flash) drive to class to store the files that they will be using. Prerequisite: Familiarity with Excel, including knowing how to enter simple formulas and use built-in functions. An introductory statistics course is recommended.

This two-day workshop is designed for all OMH staff working with teens and families in a wide range of treatment contexts. Participants will learn the basic principles of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as well as relevant adaptations for working with this population. Dementia Care Practices for DOH
This three-day workshop is designed for long-term care nurses who work with individuals living with dementia. Workshop participants will learn about the effects of dementia and practice dementia care techniques. The workshop will include ways to engage residents through meaningful communication, how to recognize and assess pain, nutrition and hydration improvement, strategies to reduce risk of falls and preserve mobility, how to prevent unsafe wandering, techniques to reduce the use of restraints, and end-of-life care. Derivative Transactions
This workshop provides an overview of derivatives accounting and is designed for professionals who work in accounting, auditing, and other finance-related titles. A derivative is a financial transaction such as an interest rate swap that has been structured from other transactions. Developmentally Disabled Sex Offenders: Assessing Treatment Progress and Community Management for OPWDD (Videoconference)
This workshop is delivered through videoconferencing and will highlight the recent research on assessing risk and needs among this population. The workshop will also focus on helping service providers learn how to score and use the TIPS-ID (Treatment Intervention and Progress Scale for Sexual Abusers with Intellectual Disabilities), a provider-administered, structured method for identifying treatment needs and measuring treatment progress among adult male sex offenders in both community and residential settings. Community management strategies will also be discussed.
Developmentally Disabled Sex Offenders: Treatment Strategies and Case Consultation for OPWDD (Videoconference)
This two-day video conference is designed for OMRDD and all statewide clinicians and administrators who work with developmentally disabled sex offenders. The workshop will feature one and a half days of treatment strategy training, and a half day devoted to case consultation work. Specific, anonymous cases will be reviewed, analyzed, and discussed for furthering the understanding of treatment strategy skills and their applications.

Upon completion of this workshop, 12.5 contact hours (1.25 CEUs) of continuing education will be awarded. This advanced level workshop will review dysphagia, including disorders and medications that can affect swallowing. The evaluation process with recommendations for various standardized assessments to use based upon specific complaint will be discussed as well as appropriate times to refer. Gluten-Free Diet for OPWDD (Videoconference)
This workshop, delivered via videoconference, will describe the principles of Celiac Disease and current testing and treatment methods. Testing, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity will be presented. This workshop will also discuss current research and treatments applying the Gluten-free diet to individuals with Developmental Disabilities. A thorough explanation of the many and varied nuances of a gluten-free diet will be offered. This workshop reviews the fundamentals of successful grant development in the public sector setting. This workshop will address the components of a professional presentation style and identify proficient public speaking skills. This workshop will also focus on the skills every trainer needs to conduct effective training sessions that are interactive and engaging for adult learners. Listening and assertion skills will be taught for presenting, processing discussion, and building group cohesiveness. How to Manage Risk of Sexually Offending Behavior by Persons with Developmental Disabilities for OPWDD
This workshop will introduce a risk assessment tool that utilizes a convergent approach called ARMIDLO-S. ARMIDLO-S combines an actuarial aproach with guided, clinical judgement, and is used to assess risk in persons with developmental disabilities. The primary components needed to manage re-offending risk effectively will be outlined. Common mistakes in risk management by teams will be presented and discussed.
How to Testify in Court
This workshop is designed for individuals who provide factual and expert testimony in county, family, and state supreme courts. Topics include the difference between standard and opinion testimony, preparation with the trial attorney, and the most effective methods for delivering testimony in court. Content is relevant for individuals who testify exclusively in administrative hearings; however, it is not issue-specific for individual agency settings.

This four-day workshop is designed for identified psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, intensive case managers and rehabilitation staff at the Mt. Vernon Clinic and select healthcare staff from other Rockland Psychiatric Center clinics. This workshop will provide clinicians and counselors with an understanding of integrated dual diagnosis treatment including the core care principles and the IDDT Fidelity Scale. The workshop will cover how to conduct a five-step assessment and develop a treatment plan utilizing specific IDDT instruments and forms. The Interactive Intelligence (InIn) Online Passport is a one year subscription to all of InIn’s non-certification online courses. An unlimited number of individuals can access the online curriculum using one login anytime. One set of login credentials is provided and can be distributed to all users. Topics include understanding the interviewer's ethical responsibilities, detecting deception, and writing effective interview reports. This workshop is intended for examiners, investigators, inspectors, auditors, attorneys, and other employees who interview external subjects. Prerequisite: Prior completion of the PSWP workshop "Investigative Interviewing" or a solid understanding of investigative interviewing concepts and techniques is recommended for all workshop participants.

This workshop will be presented in eight ½ day sessions. The workshop provides an interactive, hands-on introduction to Java programming. Participants will learn fundamental Java concepts and methods including Object-Oriented Concepts, Decision Structures, Loop Structures, HTML, and File Processing. How to build systems and documentation processes that help make information available to several staff, rather than becoming "siloed" in isolated units and how to capture existing knowledge in order to create smooth transitions and not impede organizational work and processes will be covered.
Leadership Skills for Psychiatric Nurses for OMH
This workshop is designed for nurses who want to learn leadership skills that will enable them to delegate tasks and effectively supervise LPNs and unlicensed caregivers on a day-to-day basis. Participants will learn techniques for gaining staff support and commitment, ways to get work done while maximizing resources, and effective time management. Participants will learn how to break down communication problems so they can deal effectively with conflict and handle mistakes correctly. Additional topics, such as how to create an atmosphere of trust and special considerations will also be explored.
Leadership Skills in a Changing Environment
This two-day workshop explores the impact of situational leadership on management problem solving. Topics include participatory management and motivational tactics; effects of dwindling resources on an organization; the need for time management; and re-engineering approaches when faced with reduced resources.
Legal and Public Ethics of Social Networking and Online Activity
This workshop will review the ethical implications of social networking from a variety of perspectives relating to law and public legal practice. After reviewing the variety of available frameworks for ethics discussions and the backdrop of legal and public ethics laws, workshop participants will look at reports of ethical issues that have arisen in relation to social networking and online activity. The ethical implications of investigating public employees’ social networking and online activities will be covered, as will the ethical and professional implications of public lawyers’ use of these technologies. To the extent necessary to more fully evaluate the ethical questions, state and federal technology law will be discussed, but these will not be the focus of the program. The day will include both full class instruction and small group exercises. Six (6) Continuing Legal Education credits in Ethics will be awarded with this class.

Liability in the Computer Age for DPS
This half-day workshop will discuss the liability state agencies face during the computer age. The workshop will cover the following topics: liability involved in the daily use of computers, the internet, and other technologies (i.e. PDAs, smart phones); liability and risk of using Wi-Fi (including abiding by open access policies); copyright infringement (downloading music or videos and the origins of copyright); and expectation of privacy (or lack thereof). In addition, the course should cover how to limit liability and how far liability can be limited. Upon successful completion of this workshop, three (3) Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits in Professional Practice will be awarded.

This four-day workshop provides an intensive architectural overview of the Microsoft .NET Development environment and the Common Language Runtime (CLR) using VB as the language of choice. It focuses on understanding how to develop applications and reusable classes that take advantage of the features exposed through the CLR. OMH Nurse Peer Mentoring Program
Following a project initiation discussion with OMH, the University of Rochester will develop a survey tool that will include questions designed to yield quantitative and qualitative data regarding development of a peer mentoring or other similar program for OMH nurses. The goal of the survey is to get information to design a program that will improve the quality of nursing care by increasing support to nurses, enhancing nursing recruitment and retention, improving communication and increasing employee satisfaction. In addition to survey development, the University of Rochester will conduct up to four informal focus groups either in person or via webinar with select OMH staff to gain additional insight into program development. After the survey results are analyzed, the University of Rochester will provide a detailed report with program recommendations.
On Board Diagnostics Enforcement Training for DMV
This three-day workshop is designed to help motor vehicle investigators analyze data from On Board Diagnostic (OBD) tools for enforcement of the emissions program. Participants will be taught how to access data and determine fraudulent OBD testing in order to develop cases and present those cases before an administrative law judge in court. The workshop will include classroom discussion and hands on activities using vehicle scan tools and their various service modes.
Online Continuing Legal Education Workshops from NACLE
These online workshops, which can be completed at your convenience during a three-week period, are for PS&T attorneys who are interested in earning CLE credits. Multiple titles are available for registered participants to choose from. In this five-day course, students learn the concepts of relational databases. This course provides the essential SQL skills that allow developers to write queries against single and multiple tables, manipulate data in tables, and create database objects. Students learn to control privileges at the object and system level. This course covers creating indexes and constraints, and altering existing schema objects. Students also learn how to create and query external tables. Students learn to use the advanced features of SQL in order to query and manipulate data within the database, use the dictionary views to retrieve metadata, and create reports about their schema objects. Students also learn some of the date-time functions available in the Oracle Database. This course discusses how to use the regular expression support in SQL.
Oracle 11g Program with PL/SQL
This five-day course introduces students to PL/SQL and helps them understand the benefits of this powerful programming language. Students learn to create PL/SQL blocks of application code that can be shared by multiple forms, reports, and data management applications. Students learn to create anonymous PL/SQL blocks as well as stored procedures and functions. Students learn to develop, execute, and manage PL/SQL stored program units such as procedures, functions, packages, and database triggers. Students learn the basic functionality of how to debug functions and procedures using the SQL Developer Debugger. Students also learn to manage PL/SQL subprograms, triggers, declaring identifiers and trapping exceptions. Students are introduced to the utilization of some of the Oracle-supplied packages. Participants will learn how to manage memory effectively and how to perform some performance evaluation and tuning tasks, including using some of the advisors. Orthometric Heighting with GPS
The seminar introduces the practice of orthometric heighting with Global Position System (GPS) receivers. Topics include a “taxonomy” of heights and heighting systems, the relevant parts of the GPS error budget, NGS-suggested guidelines of practice, and a large-scale example. This workshop is designed for land surveyors and other related titles. No prior knowledge about GPS positioning is required, but attendees who already use GPS surveying will be better prepared. Person Centered Planning, Mobility & Orientation Training
This hands-on interdisciplinary workshop series will provide OPWDD health care staff with tools and approaches that can be used to plan with a person, instead of for a person allowing them to support the needs, wants and growth of deaf-blind individuals . Workshop participants will learn standard orientation and mobility skills with adaptations specifically designed for consumers who are deaf-blind. The workshop will include an overview of the deaf-blind population, insight into deaf-blind culture and strategies for communication with the public, staff and peers. The workshop will also include information about augmentative and alternative communication including the use of tactile sign language, object schedules and pre-printed messages in Braille.
Pharmacology and Function - the Impact of Medication on Mobility and Movement for OPWDD
This workshop will provide participants with information on the impact of both prescription and non-prescription medications on movement and function and how to use this knowledge to make appropriate rehabilitative treatment plans. This session will provide participants with clinically useful strategies to answer questions about pharmacology in rehabilitation. The workshop will discuss the October 2008 US Department of Health and Human Services' Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans report, and its implications. This four session workshop is for participants whose primary language origin is Asian. Through exercises and practice sessions, workshop participants will learn how to improve pronunciation using appropriate intonation, word stress and other strategies. Each two-hour session will provide participants with the necessary skills and tools to be more competent, confident and effective oral communicators in their work assignments with colleagues and external customers. This half-day workshop is for primary caregivers for individuals with disabilities that, while in their care, may exhibit behavior that is considered socially unacceptable, rude, hurtful, or put the individual or those around him or her in danger. The workshop will focus on how to help staff handle these behaviors in ways that promote respect, safety, growth, and their relationship with the individual. Utilizing small and large group interactive activities, staff will be introduced to the DETER method, a method which promotes depersonalizing, empathizing, tone, engaging, and referring.

The Standards for Internal Auditing
This one-day workshop is designed for Internal Auditors and will help improve auditing skills by following the most widely-accepted, world-wide standards for the practice of internal auditing. The International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) is the conceptual framework that organizes authoritative guidance promulgated by The Institute of Internal Auditors. IPPF guidance includes mandatory and strongly recommended guidance. The workshop covers the entire IPPF, with particular focus on the new and changed standards which become effective January 1, 2011. Use of Advanced Behavioral Techniques for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities for OPWDD (Videoconference)
This half-day workshop is delivered through videoconferencing and highlights some of the recent research on effective behavior planning for individuals with Moderate, Severe, and Profound intellectual impairments, focusing on positive and proactive techniques that reduce the need for restrictive interventions. Current best practice treatment strategies for this population will be discussed.
Using SMART Boards
This half-day day workshop is for teachers and instructors who use SMART Boards in their classrooms. It focuses on using the SMART Board as an interactive tool that connects a computer and whiteboard. Participants will learn how to write notes in digital “ink” and save what has been written for future use and distribution. Upon completion, participants will be fully able to use a SMART Board as an effective teaching tool in their classroom.
Using Technology to Create Dynamic and Interactive Presentations
This workshop will cover the use of presentation tools (PowerPoint and Prezi) to create dynamic presentations. Through the use of graphics, animations, sounds, and video, participants will learn to go beyond a typical slide presentation. In this workshop, participants will be presented with, and practice, methods and strategies to create visually-rich presentations, interactive animations, and audio- and video-enabled content. A number of examples will be showcased and resources will be provided.
Using the Reid Technique for Interviewing and Interrogation for OMIG
This three-day course provides the fundamentals necessary to conduct a proper interview and interrogation; a structured frame of reference for those interviewers who have some experience but also may not have had any formal training in the area; and improves the efficiency of all participants in obtaining the truth from suspects, witnesses and victims in a legally acceptable manner. This course follows the trademarked method of the Reid Technique and has been customized to address the specific needs of Medicaid fraud investigators at the Office of the Medicaid Inspector General.
Utility Depreciation: Application of Principles for DPS
This workshop will include a high level description of depreciation; the methods, revenue requirements (for utilities), and credit ratings; basics in depreciation such as property record structures, forecasting, and retirements; and setting revenue requirements for utilities as a required skill.
Venous Access Devices, Blood and Blood Products for OMH
This workshop for clinical practitioners provides an overview of venous access devices and their management, such as IV's, implantable venous access systems, PICC lines, and tunneled catheters, such as Hickman catheters. It also reviews blood and blood products policy, and the recognition and management of complications. Participants will be given an opportunity to practice IV insertion during this workshop. Upon successful completion of this workshop 6 contact hours, or 0.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be awarded.
Visual Impact Assessment for DOT
This two-day workshop covers the recent advances in Visual Impact Assessment (VIA) Methodology and its application in New York State. These developments in the field have taken place at a time of increasing VIA activity regarding power plant siting and transportation project work. Topics include: new regulatory projects in the state; review of the US Army Corps of Engineers Visual Resources Assessment Process (VRAP); advances in visibility assessment; computerized visual simulation techniques; and visual mitigation. Sequential progression through all steps of VIA analysis will be addressed. There will also be computer demonstrations involving visibility and visual simulation applications. This is an intermediate level workshop aimed at public professionals with some knowledge of VIA process, and will focus on current VIA issues and use of technology. Upon completion of this workshop, 1.1 Continuing Education Units (11 PDHs) will be awarded.
Web 2.0 & Social Networking Technologies
This half-day workshop provides an introduction to Web 2.0 technologies. Participants will learn about the evolution of the World Wide Web from static webpages to dynamic and shareable content. The workshop will cover Web 2.0 applications such as blogs, wikis, RSS, and social networking. Empire 2.0 and the usage of these technologies in the public sector will also be discussed.
Web 2.0 Tools in NYS Government: Strategies for Successful Professional Use
Use of Web 2.0 and social networking technologies is becoming increasingly important in state government. This workshop will help participants develop strategies for successful communication and collaboration with Web 2.0 and its many applications. Topics will include ethical use of internet-based social technology in the public sector, appropriate professional use for state agency purposes, implementation guidelines, and considerations for account management and security settings. Some familiarity with Web 2.0 and social networking technologies is recommended.
Web Design and Management Using XML for HESC
This three-day workshop introduces the fundamentals of XML and its related technologies so that you can create your own markup documents. Participants will work in XML documents with similar structures to make it easier to understand and maintain data. Participants will learn to develop Document Type Definition (DTD) and Schema documents. This workshop also covers how to retrieve relevant data from an XML document to generate an output document that is visually appealing and appropriate to the target audience. Familiarity with HTML, XHTML, and Object Oriented Programming Principles is recommended.
Wireless Technology
This workshop provides an overview of wireless technologies and why organizations are choosing to adopt them. The different types and the advantages and disadvantages of wireless technologies will be explored, including security issues and concerns that most likely affect a wireless network. The workshop will also cover what is required to deploy a wireless solution, and how to integrate wireless and wired.
Working with Case Studies and Role-Plays in Training (Train-the-Trainer)
This workshop is designed to develop case studies and role-plays for participants’ workshops. The basic elements of case studies and role-plays and how they relate to the training objectives will be presented. Attention will be given to how to use case studies and critical incidents most effectively. Participants will also learn to develop role-plays, and a demonstration will be given of the various ways in which role-plays can be used. Specific techniques, such as warm-ups, role reversal, and role rotation will be presented. Participants in this Train-the-Trainer will practice delivering the curriculum and facilitating small group exercises. The workshop is intended for experienced trainers with strong platform and presentation skills.Upon successful completion of this workshop, 6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be awarded.

This half-day workshop is designed for nurses working in non-acute mental health settings. The workshop will emphasize the best practices in wound assessment and treatment including the staging of wounds. Information on specific types of wounds, like pressure ulcers, neuropathic ulcers and deep tissue injury will be discussed. Pain management and emergency care of wounds related to self-injury will also be included. Proper documentation and case scenarios will also be included. Wound Management for OPWDD (Videoconference)
This workshop is delivered through videoconferencing and covers clinical management of chronic wounds in individuals with developmental disabilities. The workshop will also address caring for clients at risk for developing a pressure wound. Workshop topics will include skin anatomy, the biology and physiology of wound healing, and complications related to healing. Various aspects of wound management will be discussed including examination, debridement, interventions, dressings, and environmental constraints. Clinicians will also gain information on specific types of wounds, like pressure ulcers, neuropathic ulcers and deep tissue injury.
Wound Management: An Interdisciplinary Approach for OPWDD (Videoconference)

Topics include common pitfalls and errors in client record keeping; deciding what to include and omit in documentation; writing treatment plans; recording treatment activities; and documentation of client outcomes. Standards for documentation set by the Joint Commission of health care organizations will be included.

XML for Website Management
This two-day, hands-on workshop will provide a strong understanding of XML and how to apply it in your web environment. Day One will focus on the basics needed to understand and apply XML using examples and exercises based on proven research and real world applications. Day Two will expand on these examples to develop skills in applying XML to specific web issues such as managing content and multiple output formats. Participants will be given exercises to do in the workplace, and will return in one week for Day Two with questions and issues around adapting XML in their unique work environment. A flash drive with all sample files and a training guide will be provided as part of this workshop. Familiarity with web development, HTML/XHTML, and the use of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), as well as basic programming or scripting knowledge is required.
